Abstract

Migration, or permanent mobility, is one component ofpopulation growth in addition to fertility and mortality.However, compared with the data of fertility and mortality,migration data are stillvery scarce. This is caused by theabsence of a specific survey on migration. Questions onmigration is available in population census, intercensalpopulation survey, and in the recent years several migrationquestions have also been covered in socio-economic survey.Migration is a rare occurrence where not all people experienceit.Therefore migration data from surveys are commonlylessaccurate due to small sample sizes. Meanwhile, migration dataderived from administrative records are still far from perfection.
